Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies

I really wanted to try something new this year for Valentine’s Day. I came across these cookies on Seeded at the Table’s blog and decided I had to try them out. They are actually much easier to make than they look and they are sure to impress anyone! You’ll need the following materials: 1 batch of Sugar Cookies 1 batch of Royal Icing Red Icing Gel An off-set spatula 3 squeeze bottles Lots of toothpicks Heart Shape Cookie Cutter I used Ms.Field’s Sugar Cookie recipe. I made the Royal Icing with 4 cups of icing sugar, 3 tablespoons of Meringue Powder, 9 tbsp of water and 1 tsp of vanilla. I separated the icing into 3 bowls and tinted two of them with different shades of pink and left one white. I used squeeze bottles as I find they are the best for flooding cookies. I flooded each cookie with a different base colour and then made simple little dots or lines in a contrasting colour. To get the different designs I simply dragged a …

Fall Mushroom Risotto

Just in time for the first day of Fall! This easy and delicious risotto was such a hit with the family! Some people veer away from trying to make risotto because it is said to be one of the harder dishes to master. I found this method (cooking in the oven) so simple and the risotto came out perfectly. Ingredients 1 cup of Arborio rice 1 pint of mushrooms (your choice on type, I used button mushrooms) 3/4 cup of stock 1 cup of Parmesan Cheese (optional) 1/2 an onion (diced) 1 handful of thyme chopped 2 tbsp of butter Directions Preheat the oven to 375 F Use a “stove to oven” casserole dish, I used a Le Creuset casserole dish which worked perfectly for this recipe. Start by putting the casserole dish on the stove, melt the butter. Add the onions and mushrooms and fry for about 5 minutes. Once the onions and mushrooms have cooked, add the rice and stir around until the rice begins to turn brown. Then pour in the stock. …

Strawberry Tarts

Not only are these easy and delicious, there’s also the option of making them gluten free. You can purchase gluten free graham cracker crumbs and the rest of the recipe doesn’t include any gluten. The prep time takes about 20 minutes and they’re the perfect dessert to serve along side a scoop of ice cream at your next dinner party. You can also substitute the milk with almond milk for a healthier version. Ingredients (for 12 tarts) 12 muffin cups 12 tbsp of graham cracker crumbs 12 tbsp of melted butter 2 tbsp of butter 8 squares (1 ounce each) of dark chocolate 1/4 cup of milk/almond milk 6-8 strawberries 1 handful of blueberries Directions Preheat your oven to 275F Line your muffin tray with muffin cups. Add 1 tbsp of graham cracker crumbs to each cups. Pour 1 tbsp of melted butter into each muffin cup. Bake the muffin cups in the oven for about 10 minutes (keep your eye on them, take them out when they turn to a golden brown). Use a …
