Halloween Cookie Decorating Workshop!

Summer Camp at Seasons!

We have been so busy running camps for the past month that I haven’t had a moment to blog. I’ve been saving up so many photos though, so this post will promise to entertain and give you plenty of crafting/baking ideas to do with your little ones. We have done a variety of themes over the past couple weeks and these are just some highlights. For the baking activity we made graham cracker houses. Wizards The children made wizard hats out of rice krispie treats and then we made little wizards out of a paper cup and a styrofoam ball. We used non-toxic paints, googly eyes, sparkly stars and cotton balls to add the details for our cute wizards! Outer Space The kids made aliens out of a hard boiled egg and a toilet paper roll. We …

Sesame Street Cupcakes!

A very special little boy we know turned 1 recently and we decided to make these cute little cupcakes for him. There were so many Sesame street characters to choose from but personally I really like these three in particular. In order to make these delicious cupcakes, first pick a recipe and make 12 cupcakes, I used chocolate as you can never go wrong with chocolate cupcakes, simple yet yummy! Here’s a list of the other supplies you’ll need: Wilton Tips: #3 (for black icing) #17 (for yellow icing) #233 (for blue and green icing) Icing Gels: Golden Yellow, Sky Blue, Moss Green and Black Food Paintbrush Water Marshmallows (8 mini ones or 4 regular size ones) 1 batch of Royal Icing (divided into 3 bowls plus some extra leftover) Fondant: red, brown and pink (about the size of a golf ball of each) To make the right colours I used Wilton Icing Gels. I used Moss Green, Sky Blue and Golden Yellow. For Cookie Monster and Oscar I used the Wilton Icing Tip #233 …

Ice Cream Birthday Party!

This past Sunday we had the pleasure of hosting a fabulous birthday party for a very special little girl! The theme was an “Ice Cream Shoppe” and we had so much fun coming up with creative ideas. The guests got to make Ice Cream Cone Necklaces out of Scupley and Beads.  Then in the kitchen we made mini cupcakes which we iced and then put into cones. Here’s a great recipe for mini cupcakes. Once they’ve cooled down we used royal icing and sprinkles to decorate them and then just simply placed the cupcakes into the cones. The party ended with a grand feast of Ice Cream Cake (no real ice cream was used in the making of the cake)! The cake was made from “traditional birthday cake” recipe and then iced with buttercream icing. We used two separate pans for the cake and once baked we cut each cake into two and filled them with buttercream icing. So really, the cake was made up for 4 layers altogether. Graham Cracker Gingerbread Houses

Today was our last Creative Treats class with ICS, its been such a wonderful term! For our last class, we wanted a project that the students could complete in one class, so we made amazing Graham Cracker Gingerbread Houses. The houses are so cute and so easy! Plus without using too many red and green candies, no-one seemed to notice we were making them in March and not December! Follow these easy steps to make your own: Ingredients 1 batch of Royal Icing  4 Graham Crackers (full size) and one split into two pieces 1 zip lock bag (or a piping bag) Lots of candies for decorating! 9×6 piece of cardboard wrapped in tin foil Method: Step 1 Fill your zip lock bag with icing and using your hands push it all to one corner of the bag. Cut a small hole in the same corner of the bag (and by small, we mean very, very tiny, think like a tip of a pencil). Step 2 Take a full size graham cracker and using your …

Creative Treats with ICS

ICS is back doing Creative Treats for a second year and we’re so excited to have them back! We started off by making snowman, even though our snow is quickly disappearing. This is an easy baking activity and great to do with the kids! Ingredients 1 cup of Butter 1/4 cup of icing sugar 2 cups of flour 2 cups of coconut Handful of chocolate chips Candy Corn or orange gummies Coloured Fondant for Scarves/Hats Toothpicks Royal Icing Sugar (4 cups of icing sugar, 3 tbsp of meringue powder and 7-8 tsp of water) Directions 1. Preheat Oven 350 2. Cream butter and icing sugar together using an electric mixer. Add, flour and then stir in coconut. 3. Roll dough into various size balls and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes. 4. Once the balls have cooled down use the royal icing to “glue” them together and then insert a toothpick through all 3 to make sure they are secure. Use the royal icing to “glue” on the nose, eyes and accessories.

Homemade Holiday Baskets

Looking for the perfect gift? Well there’s nothing like a homemade gift basket. We’ve been making these at Seasons and they’re always well received. The basket contains homemade cookies, jam and mulling sachets plus two wrapped sparkly candles. We wrapped each delicious treat in cellophane and tied it with a ribbon. For the mulling sachets we printed the recipe on kraft paper and then glued it to card stock. You can wrap the finished basket in cellophane and tie it with ribbons!
